The Writing Pathways Initiative at Teaching Lab is looking for 7th- to 10th-grade teachers, who are interested in testing a writing scope and sequence in their classrooms this year. The writing scope and sequence is based on the research from the Writing Next report, as well as data collected from over 100 teachers during the 2021-2022 school year. The writing scope and sequence can be used with any curriculum; in fact, it was specifically developed to be embedded into all types of content.

Do you teach 7th-10th grade and incorporate writing into your instruction?

We are looking for groups of teachers within a school to participate. Those teachers should teach 7th, 8th, 9th, or 10th grade and should teach a content area that involves regular writing (e.g., English, History). Some schools would be treatment schools, while others would be control schools.

Download The Writing Pathways Initiative: 2022-23 School Recruitment Overview for more information about the overall plan and the expectations for participation.

A quick breakdown of teacher responsibilities:

  • Treatment school teachers will incorporate the writing pathway into their curriculum, fill out a daily 2-minute survey about their writing instruction that day, give a pre- and post-test to their students, and meet with the team for one (1) hour, six (6) times during the year.

  • Control school teachers will only give the pre- and post-test and fill out the survey once a week.

  • Compensation

    • Each treatment school teacher will be compensated $2,000 for the year.

    • Each control school teacher will be compensated $450 for the year.

If a group of teachers in your school is interested in participating or learning more, please email jessica.azani@teachinglab.org. Thank you for considering this opportunity!
