Before joining Teaching Lab, Michael Selkis was the Founder and CEO of ARC Education Solutions, where he led systemic education reform efforts and developed innovative tools to measure classroom impact and improve instructional practices. His work at ARC focused on reducing implicit biases in instructional decisions and creating equitable learning environments. In addition to his leadership at ARC, Michael has held various roles, including serving as a superintendent for the New York City Department of Education and directing statewide education initiatives at the National Center on Time and Learning. He has consistently focused on teacher coaching, data-driven decision-making, and promoting inclusive educational practices across all his endeavors.

In addition to his professional expertise, Michael Selkis has extensive experience in volunteer work and holds several notable credentials. He is a special education advocate and a long-time volunteer with the Special Olympics, reflecting his deep commitment to supporting individuals with diverse needs. Michael is also passionate about mental health advocacy, driven by personal experiences, and actively works to raise awareness and create safe spaces for children and families dealing with mental health challenges. His credentials include an Ed.D. in Urban Education Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University, and a Master of Education from Harvard University, both of which have informed his focus on leadership, equity, and transformative educational practices.

Michael has recently married and enjoys spending quality time with his family, including his two children. He has a passion for travel, music, movies, and walking, and is an avid fan of the Yankees and Knicks, which he enjoys watching with his son. Michael is an animal lover with a dog and four cats, and he also cherishes spending time with his mother in Saratoga Springs. In his free time, he enjoys reading about science, geology, and ancient civilizations.
