FY25 Teacher Advisory Board Member
Rebecca Moodie
Rebecca Moodie is a 16-year veteran educator and certified building and district level administrator in New York. Over the course of her career, she has taught English Language Arts at the secondary level, both middle school (grades 7 and 8) and high school (grades 9-12), as well as English composition at the post-secondary for both a state university and community college in upstate New York. Currently, Rebecca is an adjunct instructor for SUNY Brockport, where she teaches both English 102 (Foundations to College Composition) and English 112 (College Composition). She is also an International Baccalaureate trained teacher in the Middle Years Programme (MYP), as well as the Diploma Programme (DP) for both Literature and Language and Literature.
Rebecca earned her Masters in Teaching from Columbia University Teachers College, where she was a Carroll and Milton Petrie fellow. It was at Columbia where she began to cultivate a deep appreciation for teacher development. Throughout her career, Rebecca has specialized in strengthening teachers’ understanding of differentiated instruction and concept-based instruction. With a deep commitment to teacher progression and growth, Rebecca has created and taught numerous professional development courses to her peers on the aforementioned instructional methodologies.
On the personal front, Rebecca is a mom of three; she and her husband, Matt, are the parents to a son named Simon and two daughters named Renée and Noëlle. One of Rebecca’s favorite things to do with her kids is to read– rather predictably, as an English teacher. Rebecca is a firm believer that books are, as Stephen King once said, “a uniquely portable magic.” She believes that all children– including her own three– deserve to have magical moments with reading, and that all teachers can be magicians to help students develop a life-long love of the written word.
