She/Her
Before joining Teaching Lab, Renee George worked as an Early Literacy Specialist and Literacy Instructional Leader for the Children's Literacy Initiative. Renee was a classroom teacher for over seven years, teaching kindergarten, first, and second grades in both traditional public and charter schools in New Jersey and NYC. Additionally, through seasonal coaching and leadership opportunities she designed and facilitated learning sessions for leaders and teachers on anti-racist early literacy instruction and served as a resource for school leaders to align their vision and priorities for child-centered literacy instruction.
She is currently pursuing an Ed.D. in Reading Science. Renee serves as the Marketing Chair for the Pink Pearls Foundation of New Jersey, an organization dedicated to empowering and educating young women through mentorship, scholarships, and community service. She is also a co-founder of NEED (Newark for Educational Equity and Diversity), which focuses on promoting equitable and inclusive education practices in the Newark NJ area.
Renee enjoys traveling and immersing herself in different cultures. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, she loves carnival and proudly identifies as a 'carnivalista.' In her leisure time, Renee enjoys cooking, reading, and spending quality time with her family. She has a mini poodle, Marley, who keeps her company and adds joy to her daily life.
