FY25 Teacher Advisory Board Member

Roxie Salamon-Abrams

Roxie Salamon-Abrams (she/her) is a creative and compassionate educator, dedicated to expanding equitable access to meaningful education for all. For the past 12 years she has taught 11th and 12th grade ELA/ENL at Flushing International High School and Bronx International High School, public schools that work with young people who have recently immigrated to New York City. Roxie’s work as an educator is multifaceted- she designs experiential, culturally responsive and sustaining, project-based curriculum that is differentiated to meet the needs of all learners. She has collaborated with social workers and guidance counselors to develop a healing-centered and trauma-informed curriculum that nurtures students’ socio-emotional development alongside their academic needs.

Roxie believes that education should be holistic, and extend beyond the classroom. She has facilitated professional development for staff about racial equity, student voice and choice, literacy instruction and more. She co-facilitated an immigrant advocacy space led by teens for teens. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Roxie helped to build a mutual aid network in her school community that continues to thrive and grow today.

Roxie is currently transitioning from her role as a classroom teacher to support other educators across the Internationals Network for Public Schools with instructional coaching and curriculum development. To unwind, she likes to cook, spend time with loved ones, and seek out new adventures.
