Sophia began working in special education classrooms during her time at the University of Maryland, and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. She began her career teaching in ICT classrooms in East Harlem in a charter school. During this period, she also received her masters degree from Touro University in Special Education. Sophia later went on to teach as a special education teacher in Brooklyn for the New York City DOE, where she worked as the school's Special Education Liaison and 504 Coordinator.

In her spare time. Sophia enjoys running around Brooklyn, yoga, reading and traveling. She loves eating her way across the NYC restaurant scene and spending time with friends, family and her three legged dog, Ringo.
