FY25 Teacher Advisory Board Member

Vi Tamargo

Vi Tamargo is an Oregon native now residing in Southern California. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband, two children, and their many nieces and nephews who live nearby. She also finds it incredibly humbling to be an individual that can fully admit she finds deep joy in her professional work.

Vi began her career as an elementary and middle school classroom teacher, then instructional coach and mathematics interventionist. With experience in districts undergoing significant instructional change, she has seen firsthand how professional learning often gets sidelined due to time constraints, work overload, conflicting priorities, and limited funding. Her curiosity and passion for supporting classroom educators motivated her to move into the nonprofit publishing space, where she worked as a curriculum developer and professional learning specialist at The Math Learning Center and Open Up Resources.

Vi believes deeply in the transformative potential of high-quality instructional materials, yet she recognizes that without sustained, humanizing, and context-driven professional learning, that potential may never be fully realized. She firmly believes that discussions around equity and access should be embedded in conversations about content and pedagogy in professional learning, and she is driven to support educator teams in creating spaces for these challenging, yet essential, dialogues. With a love for designing professional learning experiences, Vi continues her work as the founder of InterconnectED Design & Consulting LLC, where she helps educators create inclusive and dynamic learning spaces.

The work ahead cannot be accomplished in isolation, and she is grateful to serve as a collaborative member of Teaching Lab’s Advisory Board. She intends to be a fierce advocate for both teachers and children.

Vi holds a K–8 Mathematics Instructional Leadership specialization from Western Oregon University, a M.S. in Education from Johns Hopkins University, and a B.A. in History and International Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame. She served as the Equity & Impact Council Chair at Open Up Resources and is a conference volunteer for the California Math Council (South). In 2024, she was honored with the NCSM Iris Carl Award for emerging leaders in mathematics education.
