Are You Interested in Becoming a Teacher Reviewer?

Written by Teaching Lab Staff

Teaching Lab is designing professional learning content to support educators who are new to implementing CKLA. The goals and objectives of this professional learning will be to support educators with developing knowledge of the instructional materials (CKLA Skills strand) and planning/implementation through a lens of cultural responsiveness. We aim for our professional learning materials to be relevant and effective for teachers in the classroom. One way we can ensure this is by involving teachers with CKLA experience in the design process.

Are you familiar with CRSE and CKLA?

Teaching Lab is seeking K-2 teachers with knowledge of and experience implementing the CKLA Skills strand and familiarity/knowledge of Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Education (CRSE) to participate in a teacher community of practice.

Teacher reviewers will be asked to:

  • Participate in an empathy interview to share their perspective and reflections

  • Read/review relevant background content to support goals of the work

  • Review drafted professional learning content at various stages of design (outline, slide decks, etc.)

  • Consider guiding questions while reviewing

  • Provide feedback on the content by either adding comments/questions directly into google docs, providing written summary of feedback, OR connecting with a designer for 30-45 min feedback sessions

  • Participate in a teacher community of practice to develop sample lesson materials, artifacts, or student work, and share with colleagues supportive of the professional learning content

Background

Teaching Lab and Student Achievement Partners (SAP) are partnering with a team of K-2 educators to design student and/or teacher facing artifacts that reflect a culturally responsive approach to foundational skills instruction with aligned instructional materials.

Specifically, SAP will be facilitating a teacher community of practice to build out examples of adaptations, considerations, and/or student work with the CKLA curriculum, implemented with a commitment to CRSE. Teaching Lab will simultaneously learn from the teacher-created examples and incorporate feedback into their professional learning design.

Time Commitment and Compensation

Teachers will be compensated $500.

Empathy interview:

  • December/January: Approximately 1 hour.

Asynchronous content review

  • January, 2022: 1-2 hours*.

Teacher Community of Practice
