Dr. Sarah Johnson has served as the Chief Executive Officer at Teaching Lab since 2018. In that role, Sarah leads Teaching Lab’s strategic initiatives, including setting and communicating a vision for the organization and its mission, strategic management, ensuring financial and operational health, leading fundraising efforts, and stewarding Teaching Lab’s board.
Sarah joined Teaching Lab from the Overdeck Family Foundation, where she created and managed the Exceptional Educators Portfolio, a set of investments focused on improving teaching and learning nationwide. Sarah also held leadership roles at New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) under the Deputy Chancellor for Teaching and Learning. In her various roles, she implemented a continuous improvement strategy across over 1000 schools and oversaw policy for the city’s teacher development and evaluation system.
Sarah was a high school science teacher and founder of a social justice student leadership program in Washington, D.C. and Oakland, CA.
She has her Doctorate in Education Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education, an M.A.T. from American University, and graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in Neuroscience from Emory University.
